Though primarily a ranged weapon, the Heavy Bowgun's melee attack, while extremely unwieldy, does do reasonable damage and applies stun damage when hitting the monster's head. This, combined with the frequent need to leave oneself completely vulnerable while reloading, means adept Heavy Bowgun users will need to know when to pick their range as well as their timing, as dodging, countering, and guarding are not nearly as effective as with other weapon classes.
